On average, each inhabitant of the planet generates 0.74 kg of waste per day, a figure that ranges from 0.11 to 4.54 kg/day depending on the country. This represents 2,010 million tons of MSW generated in the world in a year, according to data published by the World Bank in the report What a waste 2.0. These numbers could increase to 3,400 million tons by 2050.

And it is estimated that only 19% of materials are recovered through recycling and composting, according to the What a Waste 2.0 report published by the World Bank.

Waste is the third largest anthropogenic source of methane gas emissions, mainly due to the decomposition of organic matter in landfills. In 2021, approximately 73 megatons of methane gas were generated worldwide, according to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Reducing waste generation and the impact it has on the environment and human health is one of the greatest challenges we face as a society. And if urgent measures are not taken at a global level, waste generation will increase considerably in the coming years.

The founders of the company began to question and study the difficulties and impediments that exist in the processes of waste management and treatment to recover all the materials that make up household waste. From the concern to solve this global problem, Thermowaste was born.
